Despite having only two row repeat, the braided cable stitch can look daunting because it uses post stitches. This will therefore require some basic crochet knowledge.

Notes:
- The stitch pattern is a multiple of 8 sts + 4.
- Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch
- Ch 3 at the beginning of a new row counts as a stitch.

Supplies.
- You can use any yarn you have around, but I recommend a worsted yarn, because it is easier to work with for a beginner.
- 5mm crochet hook if you are using a worsted yarn, or the recommended hook for your yarn.
- pair of scissors and darning needle.

front post treble crochet {fptr} : yarn over twice on hook, insert hook around the post stitch stated, yarn over and pull through the post, (4 loops), **yarn over, pull through 2 loops, repeat from ** until you have one loop on hook.

Crochet braided cable stitch pattern.
Chain a multiple of 8 i.e {8+8+8+8..}, then add 4 chains.
Row 1.
Skip the first chain, sc in the 2nd chain and each chain to the end of row.
Row 2.
Chain 3, dc in 2nd chain and each chain to the end of row.
Row 3.
Chain 1, sc in each st to the end of row.
Row 4.
Chain 3 (acts as first dc), dc in the next 2 sts,
***fptr in the dc 2 rows below, (refer to special stitches on how to do the fptr)
skip next st, fptc in next 2 sts,
fptr in the skipped st,
fptr in the next st,
dc in next 3 sts
. repeat from *** to end of row.
Row 5.
Ch1, sc in each st to end of row.
Row 6.
Ch 3, dc in next 2 sts,
***
fptr in the fptr 2 rows below,
skip next st, fptr in next 2 fptr sts, 2 rows below
fptr in the skipped fptr st,
dc in next 3 sts.
repeat from *** to end of row.
Row 7.
Ch 1, sc in each st across.
Repeat rows 6 and 7 until you master the stitch.
