In this post, I’ll show you everything you need to know about how to crochet a scrunchie for a completely new beginner or and avid crocheter.
Materials Needed.
- Light weight yarn or 2 strands of fingering weight yarn held together. Since it’s a small project, you can play around with any weight if yarn you have around. You will need approximately 35g of the main color and 13g of the contrast color.
- 3.5 mm hook
- Elastic hair band.
- Yarn needle.

Abbreviations / Stitches Used.
Note: This pattern is written in US terms.
Crochet Scrunchie Pattern.
Round 1.
Attach yarn in the elastic band then ch 1,
Insert hook in the band, yarn over and pull through (2 loops), yarn over and pull through the 2 loops. {first sc stitch}
Continue placing sc stitches around the elastic band until you have 76 to 80 stitches, slip stitch to join round.
Round 2.
Chain 3, 2 dc in the same stitch, place 3 dc in each stitch to end of round, slip stitch to join round
Round 3.
Repeat round 2.
At the end of round 3, you can chain 1 and cut your yarn. Only proceed to round 4 if you want to add a contrast color
Attach new yarn {the contrast color} in the first st, ch 1 and sc in the same stitch, continue placing 1 sc in each stitch to end of round, slip stitch to join round, ch 1 and cut yarn
Weave in all loose ends.
