Crochet iris stitch is a great pattern for those who want a quick and easy pattern with less concentration but still gives a beautiful fabric.
The Iris stitch is not so common (i don’t know why), but it is very easy to work up. It is only one row repeat and after row one and beside the first & last stitches, you’ll be working in spaces and not stitches (how awesome).
The iris stitch is light and airy which makes it ideal for spring and summer projects such as scarves, shawls, light cardigans, tops and many more. Did you know you can make a light afghan with this stitch? You should try it out.

- Yarn. I used milk cotton yarn, which is dk/ category 3.
- 4.5mm crochet hook.
- Pair of scissors.
- Yarn needle.
Note: You are free to use any yarn you have around with the recommended hook size.

ch = chain
dc = double crochet
ch-1 sp = chain 1 space
sp(s) = space(s)

Notes.
- Ch3 at the beginning of each row counts as a dc stitch.
- The foundation row is a multiple of 4 sts (for the pattern) + 3 chains
- The (2dc ch1 2dc) group, is referred to as cluster (clu) in the pattern.
- Always turn at the end of every row.
- The pattern uses two colors. However, you can use one color of multiple as you desire.

Changing colors at the end of a row.
Last row of previous color.
Continue with the row 3 pattern until you reach the last dc stitch.
Dc in the last st but stop when you have 2 loops on hook.
drop current yarn and pick the next color of yarn.
Yarn over and pull it through the last 2 loops on your hook.

Next row.
With new yarn, continue with row 3 pattern.

Repeat the row 3 pattern until you reach the next color change then repeat the steps for changing color.
That’s all for the Iris stitch pattern.
