One of my favorite stitch patterns is the griddle stitch.
Also known as the lemon peel stitch, the griddle stitch is an easy, fun and fast stitch to work with. It is a combination of single crochet and double crochet, which are alternated to create the textured fabric.
If you are an absolute beginner, you want to learn the single crochet and double crochet stitches first.
Other stitch patterns that uses the single and double crochet are the suzette stitch & the houndstooth stitch. The houndstooth is actually same as the griddle, only that you will be alternating 2 colors between rows.
